The 2,000 sq ft store in New Cathedral Street, which will begin trading on Thursday, will be Ugg’s first outside London and will stock a full range of sheepskin shoes and accessories.

The Australian Ugg boots were made popular by Kate Moss and have been worn by celebrities from Coronation Street stars to David Beckham.

Its Manchester outlet will be the chain’s 10th Ugg branded store in the world, with others in cities such as New York, Tokyo and Beijing.

The company was founded in Australia in 1978.

Meanwhile Swedish outdoor clothing firm Helly Hansen will open its first UK standalone store in Manchester’s Arndale Centre this autumn, with plans to open another eight locations across the country over the next three years.

The company reported record profits in 2008.
